Biomedical engineering or medical engineering is the application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes. The field has rapidly emerged over the past twenty years to now becoming one of the fastest growing engineering disciplines on a worldwide basis. It has now also morphed into prominent sub-disciplines such as biomechanics, biomaterials, rehabilitation engineering and medical devices, etc. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is highly pervasive within many aspects of the biomedical engineering sciences.

Über den Autor Gabriel (Hrsg.) Gomes de Oliveira

Gabriel Gomes de Oliveira is a Researcher at CTI - Renato Archer and Collaborating Professor at FEEC/UICAMP. He is an Editor of Springer Nature and has more than 100 publications in several high-impact journals. His research focus is on the incorporation of AI principles in data mining.Yuzo Iano had his PhD in 1986 from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp). He is the author of more than 10 books and 400 published articles. He has won several undergraduate and postgraduate teaching awards at Unicamp. His main area of research is in AI/Machine Learning related to telecommunications and telemedicine.Navid Razmjooy is a Senior Member of IEEE and has published more than 150 peer reviewed journal papers and 6 books. He is a co-Editor of "Frontiers of Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging" (IOPP - 2023 pub date).Rangel Arthur is a Professor within the Faculty of Technology at Unicamp. He has published 200 peer reviewed journal articles, with his major research focus being AI within intelligent systems.Euclides Lourenco Chuma is a professor and researcher at Unicamp University, specializing in sensors and telecommunication systems. He currently chairs the IEEE Sensors and Systems Joint Councils South Brazil Chapter. Dr. Chuma is a member of the Brazilian Society of Biomedical Engineering, the Brazilian Society of Photonics, and the Brazilian Society of Microwave and Optoelectronics. He has authored dozens of journal papers, focusing on sensors, IoT, AI, and healthcare-related issues.Noradin Ghadimi is an Associate Professor at Islamic Azad University, Iran, He had published 45 referred journal papers, with his major research focus being power engineering and energy systems.Venkatesan Rajinikanth is a Professor at Saveetha School of Engineering. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and has a strong research background in AI and Machine Learning within healthcare. He has authored 140 referred journal papers and written 10 book chapters.
